Released in 2011, Private Eye is a video slot created by the renowned Microgaming. This crime-themed slot has sleuthing players spinning the reels for clues time and time again. Graphically, the design is in keeping with the period when Private Eyes were in abundance and paperboys stood on the corners of the streets hollering ‘Extra! Extra! Read all about it!’
Players will encounter a mugshot, telephone, chalk outline, handcuffs, money, camera, femme fatale, car and gun on the reels alongside the Paperboy scatter, Private Eye scatter, Top Secret Files Bonus scatter and Private Eye Badge wild. This free slot game review will explore the game’s gameplay, specifications and bonus features.

Private Eye has a classic 5 reels by 3 rows slot layout with 243 ways to win. Pays are awarded from matching three or more symbols on adjacent reels across the paylines. The wilds substitute for all other symbols except the Private Eye Scatter, Top Secret Files Bonus Scatter and Paperboy Free Spins Scatter.
This Private Eye slot review discovered that the RTP is pretty high at 97.50% and it has a high volatility rate to match. The Return To Player and slot volatility are theoretical indicators, which predict the potential payout to a player (RTP), pot size and frequency of payouts over an extended period of time.
With high volatility, it is expected that players will need to wait a little longer for the Private Eye to pay out, but that the win pots should be of substantial value. There are other bonus features, which keep players entertained, including Private Eye free spins, high paying wilds and scatter pays from any position.
Land three Paperboys Scatters on reels 3, 4 and 5 to activate the Private Eye free spins. Choose three different newspapers to reveal the number of free spins awarded (up to 20), a multiplier (up to 4x) and a bonus cash prize. The free spins cannot be retriggered.
Land three Top Secret Files Bonus scatter on reels 1, 2 and 3 to activate the Solve the Case Bonus round. Players pick clues from all the objects until the telephone rings, which signals the round is over. Should players find fingerprints, they will be awarded all the prizes and an additional bonus round.
The Mugshot Bonus round can only be triggered by discovering fingerprints in the Solve the Case bonus round. Here, players are faced with a mugshot board where they select a shot to reveal a cash prize.
Private Eye will appeal to many players for its clue solving, crime theme. Although not an original theme, Microgaming has executed this well. The soft jazz soundtrack and authentic graphics set the scene for this case-busting slot with entertaining bonus features, including high paying wilds, multiple scatters, bonus rounds and Private Eye free spins.
